When the Bithers first started this ministry, over Twenty-five years ago, they realized that one of the major problems facing the people of Hinche and the surrounding villages, was the lack of clean drinking water. The people of this area obtain their water from the rivers and streams. This water is highly contaminated, and is the cause of many of the health problems plaguing these people.
It was because of this basic and vital need, clean water, that Haiti Endowment started the well drilling ministry. It is our goal to provide clean, safe, drinking water at each of the new schools and churches that we start. We have had great success where new wells have been added and this has greatly helped the people of those villages. Our medical teams have noticed a marked decline in water borne illnesses, as a direct result of these new wells.
To date, Haiti Endowment has provided new wells in four of the villages and four wells in Hinche, Haiti. Each new well costs an average of $2300 per well. Of the twelve new schools and fifteen churches, twelve are still without clean drinking water. The women of these villages must walk as much as a mile to the stream and carry their contaminated water back to their huts. This is their only source of water. The addition of water wells in this area is essential. Each new well is drilled as donated funds become available. These funds can be dedicated to the well drilling ministry. Otherwise, new wells are drilled when there are funds left over, after the needs of the feeding program are met.
Please help us provide a clean cup of water, each day, to the children in dire need. Help reduce the needless suffering in this neglected area.
