My name is Cassidy McDougald and I am a senior at Linfield Christian School. This summer God had blessed me with the opportunity to travel alongside my classmates, and teachers, to help host a VBS in Haiti. It was an unforgettable and amazing experience that taught me so much about God, myself, and what I want to do in the future with missions.

Throughout the week that I had spent in Haiti, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” really impacted me in a whole new way. I had always heard it and read the verse, but never really knew how I could apply it to my walk. When I found out that I had to lead a group of girls without being able to speak their language it was really intimidating. I didn’t know what I was going to do or how I was going to show them how much God loved them, without being able to communicate with them. To overcome my fear and intimidation, I had to stop and pray and ask God for his strength to help me lead these girls and give them the best VBS they could have. God gave me the strength to do it, and he used me in ways I never thought I could have been used.

Some of my most favorite memories in Haiti were  playing with the kids during free time,  watching them find joy in making arts and crafts, seeing the kids get so excited when all I did was paint flower on their face, and how they sang joyously to God at the top of their lungs during worship time. All of the kids showed me how my walk with God should look like. I should want to praise him everyday with the same excitement and passion as the kids in Haiti had.

Being in Haiti really made me want to pursue a future in missions, and I am so unbelievably blessed to have been apart of this experience.  I am deeply grateful for the Bither family and everyone els who has contributed to the HEF ministry for the past thirty years.  It was such an honor and a blessing to make a small contribution to their legacy.
