Why Haiti
HAITI ENDOWMENT FUND

There were two main things that focused Haiti Endowments ministry to Hinche, Haiti. The first reason, is the un-comprehendible needs of the people.

Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere of the world. Lack of leadership, government corruption and deforestation have held this nation at the brink of starvation for many years. Recent food shortages and raising costs, have forced many to return to the practice of eating dirt, in order to survive. Some of the areas, like Hinche and the surrounding villages, are more destitute then the coastal areas. The small amounts of government assistance almost never reach this area.

The town of Hinche has a population of about 50,000 people. They are densely crowed into a small area, along the Guayamouc river. The muddy river is highly contaminated and used for bathing, laundry and for drinking. The cities open sewage drains straight into the river. This area has a 90% unemployment rate, with no clean public water or electricity. Infant mortality rates are very high, and public health conditions are horrendous.

The second reason was God’s leadings. After seeing these circumstances first hand, retired Ministers Harold and Natalie Bither, were called to this ministry. With a vision for reaching and helping the lost people of Central Haiti, they started the Haiti Endowment Fund about twenty-five years ago. Their mission has been to partner with others, to bring God’s Word to the lost through training up Christian Haitian pastors. Also, to improve their lives with churches, schools, clean water wells and medical assistance. For twenty-five years, Haiti Endowment has touched the needs of thousands of these people, many on a daily basis. All of this work  and materials has been donated from the U.S., and no one from the U.S., has ever received a penny for compensation or pay.
